The State of New Jersey requires any individual desiring to promote professional boxing, mixed martial arts (MMA), kickboxing or ameteur mixed martial arts events to be licensed by the State Athletic Control Board and post a $10,000 Sports Promoter License Surety Bond.  Other classifications that may require a license are combative sports events, wrestling events or athletic exhibition events.

The surety bond guarantees that the promoter will comply with the provisions of  Chapter 83 of the Laws of the Laws of 1985.  In other words, the promoter must pay all required taxes and provide a written report detailing the exact amount of tickets issued as complimentary along with the amount of gross receipts from the event within 7 days of the conclusion of the licensed event.
