Colorado Motor Vehicle Certificate of Title Surety Bonds

  • Step 1: Get your vehicle inspected by a Colorado law enforcement officer and have them complete the required Certified VIN Inspection Form. 
  • Step 2: Request a Colorado Title Record Search at your local DMV office. Getting a record search will show all previous records associated with the vehicle including prior owners and liens.  The vehicle must be free of any liens as you cannot secure a CO Certificate of Title if there are have unpaid liens on your vehicle.

The cost of these bonds is typically 1.5% of the surety bond amount.  The bond amount is determined by the value of the vehicle according to your local DMV or a nationally recognized rating agency.  This premium will cover the bond for the required 3 year term.
