District of Columbia Employment Agency License Bond
Any individual, partnership, association, corporation, contractor, or subcontractor operating in the District of Columbia who, for a fee, procures, offers, or attempts to procure job-seekers for employers or employment for job-seekers, and whose fees are charged (in whole or in part) to the job-seekers contracting for those employment services, must first be licensed by the DC Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs. In addition, a DC Employment Agency License surety bond is required as part of the licensing requirements as per DC Official Code: Title 32, Chapter 4; DC Municipal Regulation: Title 8, Chapter 1, Subchapter VI
Employment Agency Service Surety Bond
All applicants for a Basic Business License for the Employment Agency category must post an Employment Agency Surety Bond for the duration of the two-year license period. The Surety Bond may be issued by an authorized insurance carrier, or the applicant may post a cash bond with the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs for the following amounts:
If the average fee for a job seeker is $2,000 or more and the Employment Agency business enters into contracts with 100 or more job seekers per year, a bond in the amount of $100,000 shall be filed.
If the average fee for a job seeker is less than $2,000 and the Employment Agency business enters into contracts with fewer than 100 job seekers per year, a bond in the amount of $50,000 shall be filed.
